Not even six figure salaries are attracting enough of the right people to take on the job of headteacher. A couple of years ago I worked on this exact problem with current, former and future headteachers. We found that the money wasn’t the issue, most headteachers love what they do – the issue was with the poor transition between being a senior leader in a school and the top job.
